Bench work in the shop still offers a good niche for people who can visualize how things fit together. Doors and hardware however, actually require wood and metal-working skills. Other industries have become plug and play where parts are simply swapped out, and computer skills are the primary requirement. Mechanical skills and real tools are still valued in the locksmithing industry. Even more important, skilled technicians are actually needed to install and maintain the opening.
